Your Holiday Skin Prep Starts Now—Not the Night Before the Party

You’ve found the outfit, booked your hair, and started wondering whether those heels are worth the discomfort. But if your plan for glowing skin involves a new face mask the night before your Christmas party, let’s give ourselves a little more time.

Starting your skin prep now gives us a chance to see what your skin needs, plan your treatments, and keep things simple as December gets busy.

Here’s where I’d start.

Get your everyday routine working for you

Before adding another serum to your bathroom counter, take a look at the basics. Are you cleansing gently, moisturizing consistently, and wearing sunscreen?

A gentle cleanser, a moisturizer suited to your skin, and broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher make a sensible foundation. Yes, sunscreen still belongs in your routine when the summer beach days are behind us.

You don’t need a complicated routine to take good care of your skin. You need one you can actually stick to—even when you get home late from the work Christmas party.

Don’t try to scrub your way to a holiday glow

If your skin feels rough or your makeup is catching on dry patches, it can be tempting to reach for a stronger scrub and use it more often.

Go gently. Exfoliation needs to suit your skin, and overdoing it can leave you dry and irritated. Layering exfoliating products on top of an already active routine can be especially unhelpful.

Before adding anything, let’s look at what you’re already using. Sometimes your skin needs a little less enthusiasm and a little more care.

Book your treatments around your calendar

When you book, tell me when your parties, family photos, or holiday events are happening. That helps us choose a treatment and timing that make sense for you.

At Lakeside Skin & Laser in Penticton, we can discuss options such as a custom facial, HydraFacial Dermabrasion, or dermaplaning, depending on your skin, your goals, and your current routine.

There isn’t one treatment that everyone needs before Christmas. I’d rather take a look at your skin and help you choose something appropriate than have you book whatever sounds the most intensive.

And if it’s your first treatment with me, give us some breathing room before your biggest event.

Thinking about retinol? Plan ahead

Retinol can help improve the appearance of uneven tone and texture, but it can also cause dryness and irritation, particularly when you’re getting started. Introducing it slowly and using moisturizer can help with tolerance.

That makes the week before your Christmas party a poor time to suddenly increase your strength or start using it every night.

If you’re curious about adding retinol, let’s talk about whether it suits your skin and how it fits around your treatments. More isn’t automatically better, and your skin doesn’t need a deadline-driven overhaul.

Keep the final week familiar

As your event gets closer, resist the urge to try every “instant glow” product you see.

Stick with products your skin already tolerates, follow any treatment aftercare, and check with me before adding extra exfoliation. If you’ve booked a facial, tell me about any new products, sensitivity, or changes in your skin before we begin.

The goal is to arrive at your party feeling comfortable and confident—not wondering why you decided to experiment on Thursday night.

Put yourself on the calendar, too

Between shopping, school events, work parties, and figuring out who’s bringing what for Christmas dinner, your own appointment can easily get pushed down the list.

If you’d like some help planning your holiday skin prep, now is a lovely time to start.
